Caring For Your Clothes

I'm sure many of you have all noticed the trend of loose blouses in fabrics ranging from polyester to silk. Last autumn, I purchased a really nice blouse that was made of 100% silk. I was a little hesitant on buying it because I have never owned anything made of silk, let alone 100%.

After the first wear, I didn't know what products or detergents would remove the odor stains from my blouse without harming the garment. Then I remembered a lecture on "Laundering" in my Textiles class and went to find my notes on them.

The answer to my problem... Good old Baking Soda!
Just fill your sink up with cold water and add a few table spoons... or just pour directly from the box like I did... hehe

On places where there is more odor than others just add a little bit directly onto the spot and rub until a paste forms. Then proceed to work the paste into the fabric.

Then simply let it soak in the sink for a while. I let it sit roughly around 5-10 minutes. Then rinse and gently squeeze dry. But try not to ring the garment, because when wet, silk looses approximately 15% of its strength. But don't worry, it will recover once the fabric dries. Then hang to dry.

Here it is, all dry and ready to wear!
